The Liebster Award. The gift that keeps on giving!

I am super excited, and surprised, that MakeAmyMake nominated me for a Liebster Award. I may only have two posts, but to know she is reading them and thinks them worthy is extremely heart-warming.

I started my blog to connect with other sewers. I can’t seem to find people in my area who are very passionate about sewing. I am fairly new to the whole process and am seeking people who love it just as much as I do. Hopefully, one day I will be good enough to create the beautiful garments I dream about. So, a big thank you to Amy! I am so glad we connected! And, a huge welcome to others who may have stopped by on my little slice of the blogosphere.

With that on to Amy’s questions!

If you had a “craft super power” what would it be?

Right now, I am really struggling with the fitting of a garment. I’ve made a couple of things for myself that I don’t like how they fit. They are good, but I want them to look great! So, my craft super power would be to immediately know how to fit things to my body! That I could understand the confusing world of translating measurements to pattern pieces to fabric! I’d like to be a Fitting Wonder Woman.

What is your favorite time of year?

This has been changing for me. Initially, I really loved summer. But, I find as I get older I like autumn the best. There’s something about the chill, crisp air and smell of leaves that I really enjoy. I love sweaters, jeans, boots, and comfy clothes. I love mountains and hiking when all the trees are changing color. Sorry, summer! Looks like you are second now.

What was your favorite project and why?

Honestly, I don’t really have a favorite project yet. They have all been a struggle for me to complete. Learning new techniques and trying to put things together without someone to teach me has been very frustrating for me. I am running on pure desire to eventually create.

What is one new technique would you like to learn?

I feel like a broken record, but I SO VERY BADLY want to learn how to fit clothes properly!

What’s your least favorite part of the creative process?

I’m not sure if this is part of the creative process, but my least favorite is the feeling of inadequacy. When you look at other peoples’ makes, and wish yours could turn out that way. When you have struggled for hours to put together a simple pillow, and then someone else can do it in an hour or less. It makes me feel like, maybe, I can’t learn this skill. I think it is part of the creative process because you look at other’s work for inspiration. However, sometimes it can have the opposite affect.

What is your craft space like?

My space is a corner of our family room. My sewing table is set up along one wall. The other wall has a bookshelf full of fabrics, sewing supplies, and sewing books. My husband actually made my sewing table for me as a Valentine’s Day present. Sometimes he has very good gift ideas! We still haven’t painted it yet.

Do you have a favorite place?

The Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia. I feel rejuvenated after going for a hike there or when we spend weekends camping. It is such a beautiful, peaceful place. We live about an hour and half to two hours away from them, so we travel there as often as possible.

Have you ever considered turning your hobby into a career?

Goodness, no! I am no where near good enough for that.

Do you have a favorite blog, store, or site?

I have a couple of favorite sewing blogs that I check out on a regular basis. Tilly and the Buttons, House of Pingerio, and SallieOh. I looked at those sites for about two years, drooling and wishing, before I took the jump to learn to sew. They were my inspiration.

If you had to pick a favorite fabric what would you choose?

I love knits. They are so comfy!

Which city do you think represents your style?

This is a hard question since I don’t think I really have a specific style. I do find myself drifting more toward outdoorsy/bohemian styles lately. Not sure of a city that reflects that though. Hmm… depends on the day. Some days I like to be a little New York and others more carefree and breezy.

As part of the award rules, I need to nominate up to eleven other bloggers with less than 500 followers. My nominees are:

Seamly Sarah– Sarah has tutorials and showcases her makes, as well as giving you a peek into her life!

Thrift Make Sew– Amelia (love her name!) refashions finds from the thrift store, as well as creating new makes. I’m always interested to see what she will sew up next.

Mary Ruth Anderson– I really love seeing the costumes she creates and how she does it!

Liebster Award Rules:

In order to be eligible, a nominee must:

•link back the person who nominated them

•answer 11 questions designed by the person who nominated them

•nominate up to 11 other bloggers for this award who have less than 500 followers

•create 11 questions for new nominees to answer

•let the nominees know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them

  2. What has been the hardest technique for you to conquer?
  3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
  4. Do you have any sewing books that are your favorite because of techniques or just for inspiration?
  5. What is your favorite thing to sew?
  6. Other than sewing, what are some other hobbies you enjoy?
  7. Where is your favorite place to travel?
  8. What’s your favorite place to purchase fabric from?
  9. Who is your favorite indie pattern company?
  10. What is your favorite sewing tool?

Thanks for much for reading!

Great stuff JessicaRose! Don’t feel disheartened by other people’s makes … Did you know Tilly had to leave the sewing Bee before the semi-final? She was a beginner too once! And most people’s photos never show a close up of that fudged bit on the inside that they just sewed a little dart into to hide the bad fit haha! I’ve not tackled the Megan yet – the bodice fitting scared me! I went Clemence and I have to say side seam pockets are my new best friend!!
